>> well, i think it's very true when you look at some of the senate races, particularly in democratic leaning states like massachusetts and connecticut. president obama being on the ballot will significantly help elizabeth warren and congressman murphy there. when you look at the house, though, the democrats would need to win 25 seats in order to regain it. that number i would actually equate to about 35 due to redistricting and different types of retirement and that number is very difficult. the one way in which you would have seen any movement there is perhaps this was a wave election but all the data indicates it's not, more of a turn out the base, fight over independent election like you saw in 2004. even had mitt romney -- one scenario i've talked about with republicans today, had mitt romney not done well at the debate last week and folks had seen the writing on the wall that perhaps this candidacy was doomed they would have done a bob dole 1996 strategy and doubled down on races in the house and senate and put resources there. romney on the uptick they won't do that. they think

the obama supporters were excited about the early polls. they said that makes no sense whatsoever because this is going to be a tight election. >> lenny, quick question to you, four points is four points. no moral victory here. if he gets close, he still loses ohio, mitt romney, so doesn't the bounce need to be bigger than it is? >> no. we also thought president obama was going to knock romney out of the box and that didn't happen. the lead slunk in a way we didn't expect and the debate went a completely different direction. this bounces more than happens the campaign expected and president obama and his campaign have to fix this immediately. >> this is why we watch it. >> this is why we run. >> it's a wild ride. thank you for being on with us. take care. >>> 48 minutes past the hour. controversy at a minnesota high school. it's not what is in the yearbook what has students upset. it is what is not in it. that story coming up. it's hard to see opportunity in today's challenging environment. unless you have the right perspective. bny mellon

back in 2008, remember, senator obama won ohio then, he only got 47% of the white women vote. these are middle class women, a lot of them are working women, some of them have been laid off the last four years, some of them have had their husbands laid off the last four years. the 47% remark, i had a woman come up to me in michigan and talk about this, i met several in ohio today, it offended them. some have had to ask for food stamps or other government assistance over the past several years. it offended them and makes them think romney doesn't understand their every day struggles of getting the kids off to school, paying the bills. that is still a warning sign here. he's making progress but if i had to put one thing on a bill board and say to win the election, romney better learn to deal with this, it would be that. the blowback from the 47%, especially among middle class women. >> gloria, you say polls are showing suburban women are keyed to a romney win at this point. >> those aren't mutually exclusive. when you look at the poll, for example, on suburban women in our cnn po
